Mokama MLA Anant Singh Gets Interim Relief as MP-MLA Court Halts Arrest in Arms Act Case; Next Hearing on May 30
Mokama MLA Anant Singh receives interim relief as the MP-MLA Court stays his arrest in a viral video and Arms Act case linked to Semraw village incident. The court reserves its decision on anticipatory bail, with the next hearing scheduled for May 30, amid ongoing police investigation and FIR involving nine accused persons.
The hearing was conducted before Judge Rajendra Kumar Pandey of the MP-MLA Court, where arguments were presented by advocate Kumar Harshvardhan, who appeared from the Patna High Court side representing Anant Singh. The defense strongly argued in favor of granting anticipatory bail, asserting the innocence of the legislator and requesting protection from arrest. After hearing all submissions, the court directed an immediate halt on the arrest proceedings of Anant Singh.
The case originates from an incident that took place on May 2–3 in Semraw village under Mirganj Police Station, where Anant Singh and Bhojpuri singer Gunjan Singh attended a public program. Following the event, a video surfaced online showing individuals allegedly displaying firearms, which quickly went viral and triggered public controversy.
Subsequently, Mirganj Police registered a First Information Report against Anant Singh, Gunjan Singh, and seven other individuals, totaling nine accused persons, under relevant sections of the Arms Act. In continuation of the investigation, the police issued a notice to Anant Singh directing him to appear by May 15 for ballistic examination of the weapons involved. However, the legislator and his supporters failed to appear for the scheduled examination along with the required weapons and licenses.
Following this non-compliance, the police approached the court seeking permission to add two additional legal provisions to the existing FIR. The matter is now under judicial consideration as the court has reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea. The next hearing on May 30 is expected to determine the future course of legal action in the high-profile case.
The case continues to draw intense political and public attention as judicial scrutiny deepens into the viral video controversy and alleged weapons display incident involving a sitting legislator.
